Dr. Jenn Kennedy, PhD, LMFT

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, #99688
Board-Certified Sex Therapist
Tel: (805) 699-6834

My career path has been varied. I started as a publicist — then worked as a freelance journalist for over a decade. Both these careers were about my love of people. I had a burning desire to understand what made people expand and retract, struggle, or thrive. I’ve interviewed hundreds of fascinating people throughout my professional life.

I earned a PhD in Clinical Sexology and work as a Sexologist. Prior to this, I also earned a Masters in Clinical Psychology and trained with both Community Counseling and Education Center (CCEC) and Pacific Pride Foundation (PPF) in Santa Barbara. Additionally, I use Gottman Method Couples Therapy and Terry Real’s concepts in my work. I am trained to work with trauma via Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and I’m certified in Sex Addiction Therapy (CSAT). I am also a board-certified Sex Therapist.

I have considerable experience working with LGBT individuals and couples. From 2017-2022, I taught as adjunct faculty in the Masters program at Antioch University Santa Barbara, and I’m the past president of the Santa Barbara Chapter of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (SB-CAMFT). In addition to one-on-one,  couples therapy, and intensives, I also run a small group offering focused on sexual health for women called The Pleasure Circle. I write and podcast on the topic of sexual health through The Pleasure Project. My fee is $350.

Author, Establishing Boundaries with Kids; A parent’s guide to negotiating limits and improving parent-child interactions.

For over two decades, my passion has been helping families create solutions so they may enjoy more connected and loving relationships. I founded Solutions in Parenting, a private practice specializing in parent education, family consultation, co-parenting mediation, and psychotherapy.

I have combined skills and experience gained as a parent educator, lecturer, family mediator, and psychotherapist to develop a highly effective parenting system that teaches parents, children, and families to thrive in respectful and loving relationships.

I authored a book, Establishing Boundaries with Kids; A parent’s guide to negotiating limits and improving parent-child interactions, which is written for families, teachers, medical professionals, and mental health professionals to use as a reference guide for using positive parenting techniques with children.

I am trained as a trauma-informed EMDR clinician and I have extensive experience as a co-parenting mediator and support families who are separating and divorcing, with individualized guidance and parenting plans to include in dissolution agreements. I also provide expert guidance when blending families, navigating school challenges, and providing developmentally appropriate parenting guidance.

I am the Past President of the Santa Barbara chapter of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists and I served on the Legislative Advisory Committee for the state board of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists.

I am certified to provide clinical supervision to both therapists-in-training as well as for established therapists and professionals, especially around topics relating to adolescents, divorce, parenting, and child development. My fee is $275.

Registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist, #130349
Certified Addictions Counselor, CADC I CiCA01160519
Certified Associate Sex Addiction Therapist
Tel: (805) 724-0915

My desire to help others was the inspiration that led me to get my masters in clinical psychology. I began my career in counseling as a CADC-certified alcohol and drug counselor, treating substance use disorders at CADA and Casa Serena. I have a passion for helping individuals and families recover from the devastation of addiction. I returned to school and obtained a Masters in Clinical Psychology so I could treat the trauma that underlies addictive disorders. During my internship and training as an AMFT, I specialized in the treatment of trauma, anxiety, addiction, and couples therapy.

I believe when we are disconnected from ourselves, we are disconnected from our lives and others. My goal for you is to have a healthy and happy life and good relationships. I help individuals, and couples get through challenging times in the areas of addiction, intimacy, communication, anxiety/depression, and life transitions. I specialize in the treatment of anxiety and addiction. I am an ASAT – Associate Certified Sex Addiction Therapist, a Certified Alcohol & Drug Counselor, and fully trained in EMDR to treat trauma. My goal is to help you feel better and live better.

I use an integrative therapy style. Using attachment theory and neuropsychology, I weave in CBT, trauma-informed, and person-centered approaches to help increase resiliency, improve relationships, regulate emotions, enhance communication, and promote healthy coping. I am trained in Gottman Method couples therapy and Nurturing Parenting.

I provide a safe, supportive environment in our comfortable office or via telehealth where you can process life challenges. I understand the pain that addiction, anxiety, relationship problems, and intense emotions cause. I want to help ease that pain and work with you to be your best self, the person you are meant to be. My fee is $225.

I offer a warm and welcoming atmosphere in our sessions by emphasizing trust, non-judgment, and humor. I use client-centered  therapy to explore your values and background–examining how your story connects to current concerns. Often, distressing life experiences linger in our subconscious, quietly influencing our self-esteem and relationships with others. In our therapy, we may integrate EMDR to help carefully explore and process tough memories to release some of this pressure.

With couples, I diffuse conflicts by increasing intimacy, shared meaning, and affection. Getting into therapy with a partner can be intimidating, but holding intentional space to connect and work through difficulties will be incredibly healing. In our sessions, couples receive new tools to foster a relationship that shields them from life’s difficulties. I look forward to helping facilitate this experience for you using research-based methods and by holding a warm, non-judgemental space for your growth.

I mostly work with teens, young adults and  pre-marital and young couples. I also work with women around issues of body image, self esteem and sexual identity. I am trained in EMDR and the Gottman Method of couples therapy, I earned a Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University, and I am currently pursuing a PhD in Clinical Sexology from the International Institute of Clinical Sexology. My fee is $155.
